Traditional Korean bridal customs

You may have seen the man getting down on one knee to introduce to the wedding if you’ve watched any K-dramas. However, this is n’t typical at Korean weddings. Instead, in a ritual known as the paebaek, the pair will bow to one another and their families before toasting each other and drinking some specific wine. Confucius is the foundation of the service, which emphasizes respecting one’s elders greatly. The couple will then provide their parents with a variety of foods and beverages, typically dates ( jjubes ) for the daughters and chestnuts ( maekju).

Before the festival starts, the couple’s community may also present the pair with light packets containing cash gifts. This is a tried-and-true method of providing financial support for the newlyweds, and it also serves as an act of betrothal gifts ( hahm ). After their ceremony, the lovers can change these hahm gifts in a space where they can hang out together.

Following the marriage ceremony, the newlyweds will discuss lee jong, a special wine made by the bride’s dateinasia review mother and poured into gourd trees. The couple may then take two sips of the wines as a sign of their marriage vows.

Last but not least, the visitors likely participate in samulnori, a functionality featuring four tools, including kkwaenggwari and li and buk. After the pyebaek or during the reception, this is a way to wish the pair fate in their new life.
